道尔顿教学法 The Dalton Approach

北京大学附属中学的道尔顿学院成立于2010年,处于教育改革的前沿,致力于帮助想要出国留学的中国学生做出国前准备。在这里,我们培养学生作为21世纪中国人的自豪感,同时引导同学们面对作为世界公民的挑战。我们受到美国先进教育家Helen Parkhurst的影响,提倡基于任务的教学体制,并成立各类学生组织。如今,她的道尔顿计划已成为全球先进教育理念的奠基石。

The Dalton Academy at the Affiliated High School of Peking University was founded in 2010 as a “laboratory within a laboratory” to prepare Chinese students to study abroad. At Dalton, our students cultivate an appreciation of modern Chinese identity while preparing to face the challenges of global citizenship. We are inspired progressive education activist Helen Parkhurst, an early twentieth-century American advocate of task-based learning and student agency in the learning process. Today, her Dalton Plan is the cornerstone of a global community of progressive education.

道尔顿计划的核心是组织学生们学习并相互交流的三种教学方法,这三种方法分别为:书院制、任务制及试验教学:

At the heart of the Dalton Plan is its trifold approach to organizing student learning and interaction throughout the year. The three pillars of the Dalton Plan are House, Assignment, and Laboratory:

  • 书院是由同年级的学生,被合理分配和组合到多个组而形成的。北大附中整体的书院制是以道尔顿计划中的书院概念为标杆而展开的。而道尔顿学院有着更为完整的教师体系,教师们每人分配到一个小组中,为学生提供帮助指导。因此在道尔顿学院中,学生们不仅有独立管理的权力,同时也被老师们指导监督。在指导制度中,老师会根据一个课程,来帮助学生在师生共同合作中增强学术和活动能力,并计划大学和职业生涯的目标。(课程安排详见个人发展项目”)
  • House is how students are organized into different groups of mixed-age level students. The overall House system for the Affiliated High School of Peking University is modeled on the Dalton Plan, with Dalton Academy having the more complete model of teachers also serving as advisors to students in mixed groups. Thus in the Dalton Academy House system, students exercise autonomy while also being advised by caring adults who in turn serve as the parents' connection between the school and the family. In the advising system, teachers will follow a curriculum which will help them work with students on creating curricular, activity, and college and career goals (see curriculum plan below under Personal Development Program).
  • 作业和任务是老师和学生在学习中对教学目标的掌握。除了课程的基本要求,在学习计划方面学生会有很多选择及自主权。在道尔顿学院,学习旨在使学生熟练掌握知识和技能,并且更好地管理自己。我们理解学生们都会有各自的学习节奏和方法,因此我们设置了许多的学习项目,例如:鲤鱼周、独立研究性学习项目、独立学习计划、体验性学习、丰富的选修课程选择以及助教系统,允许学生自主安排学习方法,这是很多传统学校做不到的。
  • Assignment is the understanding by the teacher and the student on the goals of the learning that happens at Dalton Academy. Beyond the general requirements of the curriculum, students will be presented with many choices and some autonomy in how they plan their learning. Study at The Dalton Academy is about mastery of knowledge, skills, and self. We recognize that not all students study at the same pace or in the same way. Learning programs such as Carp Week, Independent Research Projects, Independent Learning Plans, Experiential Learning, our rich elective course selection, and the teaching assistant (TA) system allow the students to take control of their learning in ways that more traditional models of education do not allow.
  • 在道尔顿的学习,是学生们不断探索的过程。我们通过各式各样的学业活动,让学生们自我探索,学习知识,提升能力,拓展极限,以及认知与实现自我价值。在这里,学生每天都要面对新的挑战,在压力下突破极限,并获得探索外界和自己内心的能力。
  • Laboratory perhaps best describes what happens at Dalton Academy. Everything we do is designed around different moments of exploration and discovery: discovery of new knowledge and awareness, discovery of new abilities, exploration on how to transcend limits, and most important a more complete exploration and discovery of one's own identity and self worth. Students and faculty at Dalton Academy will be challenged every day to push limits and delve deeper into the adventure that is learning. From the House program to the Assignment program, all members of our community will take the Laboratory approach to experiencing the learning and growth that comes with being at Dalton.

我们的课程设置集合了中国教育,合作学校们,以及来自四大洲的教育组织们的优点,现如今已自成体系,并且被不断的完善改进。我们是中国唯一一个发展成熟的自组织高中国际部。正如北京大学一样,在道尔顿自由的学术气氛中,学生们根据自己的兴趣,靠自觉性来学习。我们十分注重校内外的学习,及它们的有机结合。我们会将我们的学生培养成积极为社会服务的负责公民。

Our curriculum is informed by the best practices in both China and the wider world (including our partner schools and organizations on four continents), but is an independent and evolving model. Our program is the only fully locally-developed international program in Chinese high schools today. The Dalton approach requires self-reliance from students, developed in a context of academic freedom and curiosity modeled by the faculty and under the banner that is Peking University. We connect what we do in the classroom with what we do outside the classroom, conscious of the fact that what we learn will serve us in becoming active, responsible citizens.

实验 Laboratory

根据道尔顿的核心思想——探索,我们把学习看做一个无止境的过程,需要老师学生的共同努力。 并且,学习的过程遵循以下规律,提出设想,查找资料并制定实验,实验验证,反思实验并再次提出想法。学习由此形成一个无止境的循环过程。

Guided by our core values, we conceive of learning as an open-ended endeavor undertaken both by our students and faculty. We propose ideas, undertake research, implement a well-conceived plan, reflect on our process, and then begin anew.
